Configure job custom fields

Add organisation-owned job fields for information that must be captured consistently, searched or reported beyond the standard record.

Before you beginUse a representative record and confirm you have the permissions required for this area.

Step by step

  1. Write the business question the field must answer and check that a standard job field does not already cover it.
  2. Open Settings → Job Custom Fields and choose a clear label, suitable field type and helpful description.
  3. For choice fields, use a controlled list that people can interpret consistently.
  4. Decide whether the field is required and consider how that affects quick job creation and imported work.
  5. Save the field, open a representative job, enter a value and confirm it appears where the team expects.
  6. Brief affected roles before making a new required field part of normal work.

Good practice

Prefer a short controlled list over free text when the value will drive filtering, reporting or operational decisions.

When you are finishedNew and existing job users know what to enter, why it matters and how the value will be used.

Before you begin

  • The required information is not already represented by a standard field.
  • A named business owner will maintain the definition and allowed values.

Settings that change this workflow

The same task can behave differently between organisations. Check these settings before treating a different result as an error.

Adds organisation-defined information to job records and downstream views that support those fields.

If your workspace behaves differently, record the relevant job, client or record number and raise a support ticket so the team can investigate the exact context.
